Eternal Fire have secured a spot in the semi-finals of ESL Pro League Season 20 after an impressive 2-1 (16-14, 5-13, 22-20) victory over world No. 1, Team Vitality, halting the IEM Cologne champions’ 11-match win streak.

Eternal Fire’s win marks the first loss Vitality has faced in two months, a result that came after intense battles on Anubis, Nuke, and Inferno.

The Turkish squad led by ?zgr “?woxic?” Eker stunned the Counter-Strike community by eliminating the top-ranked team, defying expectations.

Despite trailing in key moments, Eternal Fire clawed back in critical rounds, with Ali “?Wicadia?” Yal??n pulling off a 1v2 clutch on Anubis, allowing his team to take the map in overtime.

Vitality responded by dominating Nuke with a flawless 6-0 run in the second half, but they couldn’t maintain control on Inferno.

Mathieu “?ZywOo?” Herbaut’s 1v4 clutch offered a glimmer of hope, but Eternal Fire’s resilience saw them close the series in triple overtime.

Eternal Fires triumph sets up a semi-final showdown against MIBR, who earlier cruised past M80 with a 2-0 win (13-10, 13-8).

MIBR entered the quarter-finals full of confidence after defeating Heroic 2-1 in the previous round.

Led by Andr “?drop?” Abreu, the Brazilian side dominated the American team with strong pistol rounds and early terrorist-side gun control.

Rafael “?saffee?” Costa shone on Anubis with a 28-2 K/D, while Felipe “?insani?” Yuji took over on Ancient, showcasing their ability to shut down any chance of a comeback from M80.

The semi-finals promise high-stakes matchups, with both Eternal Fire and MIBR riding momentum and hoping to secure a spot in the finals.

Saturday’s quarter-final matches

]]>
On Thursday, ENCE announced the departure of Krzysztof “Goofy” Grski, who left the Counter-Strike team after a mutual agreement to terminate his contract.

The 24-year-old decided to leave ENCE to take a break from professional play due to fear of burnout.

In a Twitter post, the Pole stated he feels exhausted from competing at the top level without many breaks, and while his decision to step away is final, Goofy plans to return to the competitive scene.

Goofy’s departure was announced less than a week after ENCE’s early exit from ESL Pro League Season 20.

In Malta, the international lineup placed last with three defeats against Team Liquid, RED Canids, and ATOX Esports.

“First of all, I want to thank Goofy for his time in ENCE. We had some lovely results at the beginning, and the memories from Katowice will live forever,” said ENCE General Manager Niklas “Willkey” Ojalainen.

“However, as things didn’t continue as we had hoped, I fully respect Goofy’s decision to step out of the CS world for a while and recharge. I hope we’ll see him back in the server once again in the future, hitting headshots with a big smile on his face.”

The Polish rifler started his esports career in early 2017 with Vistula Eagles and has, over the next two years, competed mainly in regional competitions.

His breakthrough came in 2018 when Goofy joined x-kom Team, from where he moved to PACT and, in August 2022, signed for 9INE.

With 9INE, Goofy found more success in notable events.

He led 9INE to a runner-up finish at Brazy Party and secured a bronze medal at CCT Season 1 Online Finals #1.

Goofy and two of his 9INE teammates, Kacper “Kylar” Walukiewicz and Aleksander “hades” Mi?kiewicz, were acquired by ENCE in December 2023 as a part of the major roster overhaul.

However, while this move presented the 26-year-old with an opportunity to prove himself at the highest level, success was hard to come by C with no tournament titles over the eight-month tenure.

The departure of Goofy marks ENCE’s second roster change this month after the arrival of coach Niclas “enkay J” Krumhorn from Entropiq, who replaced Jakub “kuben” Gurczyski.

ENCE now have less than four weeks to find a new player and prepare for Elisa Masters Espoo 2024.

The Finnish LAN event will kick off on October 16, featuring eight Counter-Strike teams competing for the lion’s share of a $200,000 prize pool.

Outright betting markets for the event are yet to be available with the top Counter-Strike betting sites.

However, considering ENCE’s roster situation and the presence of strong contenders such as The MogolZ and 9z Team, it is unlikely that Goofy’s former team will be regarded as one of the main candidates to hoist the trophy.

MIBR have advanced to the ESL Pro League Season 20 quarter-finals after a thrilling 2-1 (9-13, 13-10, 13-5) victory over Heroic in the second round of the playoffs.

Despite losing the first map on Mirage, MIBR rallied with a hard-fought win on Anubis and then dominated on Nuke to secure the series.

This marks the first time since Season 15 that a Brazilian Counter-Strike team has reached the quarter-finals of the Pro League.

MIBR, who have only lost one match in Malta so far, will now face the in-form M80 in their first-ever meeting.

Heroic started strong on Mirage, jumping to a 9-3 lead on the terrorist side.

MIBR fought back after the side switch but ultimately faltered in the 21st round, losing to only two guns.

Anubis played out similarly, with Heroic leading much of the first half before MIBR’s resurgence after the break.

Despite a fumble in a 2v1 situation, MIBR kept their composure and closed out the game.

The momentum carried into Nuke, where Felipe “?insani?” Yujis standout performance led MIBR to a commanding 9-3 lead.

Though Heroic won the second pistol round, their comeback was stopped by MIBRs force-buy win.

Eternal Fire also booked their spot in the quarter-finals after a grueling three-map series against The MongolZ.

Mirage saw both teams in near parity, with The MongolZ taking the map in overtime.

However, Eternal Fire bounced back on Anubis, driven by star rifler Ismailcan “?XANTARES?” D?rtkarde?, before taking Inferno in a hard-fought 13-11 victory.

The MongolZ will now regroup for IEM Rio, while Eternal Fire prepare to face Vitality.

In other action, Spirit secured a quarter-final berth after defeating Imperial 2-0 in a tense series (Nuke 16-13, Dust2 13-3).

Spirit’s star, Danil “?donk?” Kryshkovets, played a key role in the victory, despite some struggles on Nuke.

Imperial fought valiantly, especially on Nuke, but were ultimately outclassed on Dust2.

Spirit will now face Natus Vincere in the top-eight stage.

Liquid also cruised into the quarter-finals after dismantling Complexity 2-0 (13-2 Nuke, 13-7 Anubis).

Complexity, who looked solid against FaZe, were overwhelmed by Liquids preparation and individual prowess, particularly from Roland “?ultimate?” Tomkowiak and Mareks “?YEKINDAR?” Ga?inskis.

Liquid’s flawless defence on Nuke and clutch performances on Anubis sealed their victory, setting up a quarter-final clash with G2 Esports.

Friday’s quarter-final matches

  • M80 ($2.00) vs MIBR ($1.72) @ 4:15pm CEST
  • Team Vitality ($1.30) vs Eternal Fire ($3.40) @ 7:30pm CEST

Heroic delivered a dominant performance against Virtus.pro in a two-map series at ESL Pro League Season 20, winning 13-8 on Ancient and 13-6 on Dust2 to eliminate the Russian team from the tournament.

This victory propels Damjan “kyxsan” Stoilkovski and co. into the playoffs, where they will face MIBR in the next round.

The win marks a significant boost for Heroic, who have struggled with form recently.

After a poor showing at IEM Cologne due to visa issues with Abdul “?degster?” Gasanov and a last-place finish at BetBoom Dacha Belgrade, the Counter-Strike team appears to have found stability in Malta.

“It feels way better,” said Rasmus “?sjuush?” Beck in a post-match interview, expressing relief over their improved coordination.

On the flip side, this defeat is another blow to Virtus.pro, who have been in a slump since adding Denis “?electroNic?” Sharipov to their roster.

Despite managing wins over Team Falcons, FURIA Esports, and RED Canids to reach the playoffs, their lacklustre terrorist-side performances against Heroicscoring just four rounds across both mapsunderscored their ongoing struggles.

The match began on Ancient, where Heroic rallied from an early deficit to lead 5-2, only for Virtus.pro to recover and hold a slim lead at halftime.

However, Heroic came out strong in the second half, converting key clutches, including a 2v4 and two 1v2s from NertZ and sjuush, to secure a 13-8 win.

On Dust2, Heroic dominated, building a 9-3 lead by halftime and closing out the series 13-6, with standout performances from sjuush and Guy “NertZ” Iluz.

In another ESL Pro League playoff match, The MongolZ pulled off a thrilling 2-1 victory over BIG.

The series went to triple overtime on Ancient, with BIG narrowly taking the map 22-19, thanks to a quad-kill from Johannes “?tabseN?” Wodarz.

However, The MongolZ bounced back, winning 13-11 on Nuke and 13-9 on Mirage to progress to the second round.

They will face Eternal Fire next, a team they previously defeated at the IEM Cologne Play-in.

Meanwhile, Team Spirit knocked out FURIA Esports with a 2-0 victory (13-9 Nuke, 13-11 Anubis).

FURIA showed improvement from their last meeting at BetBoom Dacha Belgrade but couldn’t overcome Spirit’s solid defensive play, particularly from Dmitry “?sh1ro?” Sokolov and Leonid “?chopper?” Vishnyakov.

Spirit advances to face Imperial Esports in the next round.

Finally, Complexity’s core roster earned their first-ever victory over FaZe Clan, winning 2-0 (13-10, 13-9) in a decisive series.

They took down FaZe on Anubis and Dust2, despite standout performances from Robin “?ropz?” Kool.

Complexity’s game plan, spearheaded by Johnny “?JT?” Theodosiou and coach Tiaan “?T.c?” Coertzen, neutralised FaZe’s usual unpredictability.

EliGE commented post-match that FaZe lacked their trademark confidence and individual flair.

Complexity’s impressive team play, anchored by Ricky “?floppy?” Kemery and Michael “?Grim?” Wince, was crucial to their win.

They now face Team Liquid next, with G2 waiting in the quarterfinals.

FaZe, despite their efforts, have now exited five events in a row at the first stage of the playoffs, continuing a frustrating run for the team.

The post Astralis add cadiaN to their CS2 roster as in-game leader appeared first on Esport Bet.

]]>
Astralis has announced the signing of Casper “cadiaN” M?ller as their Counter-Strike 2 new in-game leader (IGL), replacing Alexander “br0” Bro.

The move reunites cadiaN with his former Heroic teammates, Martin “stavn” Lund and Jakob “jabbi” Nygaard, less than a year after their public split from Heroic.

The Danish trio’s reunion is notable, given that stavn and jabbi’s decision not to play with cadiaN was a key factor in their departure from Heroic.

Despite the rocky history, cadiaN emphasised that the past issues have been addressed and the team is now fully aligned.

“We’re still hungry for trophies and share the same tactical vision that drove our success before,” he said.

This transition marks cadiaN’s move from Team Liquid, where he was recently benched, to leading Astralis.

This change also allows Nicolai “device” Reedtz, the legendary nine-time top-20 player, to return to his former role as Astralis’ primary AWPer.

Device had taken on the IGL role earlier in 2024, but after a period of mixed results, including disappointing exits at IEM Cologne and ESL Pro League, he openly expressed frustration with his performance.

CadiaNs arrival now shifts leadership duties away from device, allowing him to focus on his AWPing.

Astralis’ revamped roster includes device as the AWPer, cadiaN as the IGL and rifler, with Staehr, jabbi, and stavn rounding out the lineup.

The team is set to debut under cadiaN’s leadership at the BLAST Premier Fall Final 2024 in Copenhagen before turning their attention to the Shanghai RMR in hopes of qualifying for their first Major since 2022.

Astralis sports director, Kasper Straube, expressed excitement about cadiaN’s arrival, calling him a “winnerenergetic and passionate in everything he does.”

The organisation hopes that his tactical prowess and leadership will help them return to the top of global Counter-Strike competition.

CadiaN himself said he shares Astralis’ vision of striving to be the best, and despite past controversies, he is committed to building a top Danish team that competes for major titles.

The move marks a bold new chapter for Astralis as they aim to reclaim their place among the world’s elite teams.

Both BIG and The MongolZ have proved to be deadly outfits on their day throughout the ESL Pro League group stage.

BIG performed very well in their lower-bracket run in Group C, defeating Rooster and Fnatic 2-0 before besting Complexity 2-1 in the lower final. In those series, Rigon “rigoN” Gashi, Florian “syrsoN” Rische, and Jon “JDC” de Castro carried this relatively new line-up, which will set them up well for this high-kill clash.

The MongolZ have experienced an inconsistent Pro League campaign, with losses to 3DMAX and Team Spirit before bouncing back with wins against KOI, 9z Team and 3DMAX to advance from Group B. Garidmagnai “bLitz” Byambasuren and co. play a frantic style of CS, as they live or die by the sword in terms of their play-calling on the terrorist side.

Given the dramatic difference in game styles, it is hard to predict a winner; however, expect to see all three maps in the opening series of the day.

Virtus.pro and Heroic have met four times during 2024, with VP taking each of those meetings. As such, it is no surprise that top esports betting sites have marked the Russians as $1.55 favourites.

Virtus.pro showed solid form throughout the group stage, winning against Team Falcons and FURIA to take out the lower final in Group D. Although this roster hasn’t faced Heroic yet, the world No.8 team seems to have found its mojo again and is firing on all cylinders ahead of the playoffs.

Heroic have slowly fallen in the world rankings over the last three months, and after some poor showings at S-Tier events, they are now 17th in the world. Losses to Ninjas in Pyjamas and Sangal Esports in the group stage don’t read well for this clash.

Virtus.pro are worthy favourites in this contest, and considering the form these two bring into the playoffs, it is hard to tip against them.

Best Odds: Spirit $1.20 at GG Bet | FURIA $4.20 at GG Bet

Watch Live: Twitch (https://www.twitch.tv/ESLCS)

Team Spirit and FURIA Esports will clash for the second time in three weeks, following Spirit’s dominant 2-0 victory at BetBoom Dacha Belgrade on August 30.

Spirit lost to MIBR in the upper bracket of Group B but bounced back with wins over The MongolZ and 3DMAX, even though they were pushed to three maps in both series. Danil “donk” Kryshkovets seems to be Spirit’s only win condition; if he shows up and tops the server in kills, Spirit win, but if he doesn’t, they struggle.

FURIA have performed as expected. They’ve beaten the teams they should beat and lost the games they are expected to lose. However, one constant for FURIA is Kaike “KSCERATO” Cerato, who is yet to finish any of their five matches with a negative kills-to-deaths ratio and is pivotal to their chances of causing an upset.

Neither of these teams are easy to tip with confidence, but we are getting great odds for FURIA to win one map.

FaZe Clan, who are notorious for being slow starters at events, fell to Sangal Esports in the opening round before defeating FlyQuest, Ninjas in Pyjamas and Sangal en route to a top-three finish in Group A. Although FaZe have not been at their best, David “frozen” ?eransky is the fourth-ranked player (1.40) in ESL Pro League Season 20, and if FaZe want to lift the trophy, he will need some help from his teammates.

Complexity may have qualified through the last-chance stage; however, they defeated Astralis and MOUZ twice to qualify for playoffs, which is a much tougher run compared to that of FaZe. Unfortunately for Complexity supporters, their previous meetings against FaZe have not gone their way, with the North American organisation losing each of the last four series.

With two confident yet inconsistent rosters set to clash, expect a back-and-forth series that will be played out over three maps.

These teams last met during ESL Challenger League Season 48 Europe at the end of July, when Monte won in two maps. The Ukrainian-Polish squad are 1-4 from their last five outings, however, with losses against GamerLegion, PARIVISION, BetBoom Team, and Nemiga Gaming.

EYEBALLERS hold the same record, with defeats against Zero Tenacity, Into the Breach, ECSTATIC, and ex-Qiang. As such, it is hard to see how the top Counter-Strike bookmakers have these teams so far apart in the match betting.

EYEBALLERS parted ways with Peppe “Peppzor” Borak and Maikil “Golden” Selim at the start of the month, which could explain the longer odds. However, Jonathan “delle” Ahistedt and Sebastian “dex” Samuelsson have proved to be solid additions.

Monte deserve to be viewed as favourites, but $1.34 is very short for a team in ordinary form, so we have to take EYEBALLERS to keep it close.

IMPERIAL ESPORTS vs M80 CS2 BETTING & MATCH DETAILS

Best Odds: Imperial $1.66 at GG Bet | M80 $2.20 at GG Bet When: September 14, 2024 | 19:30 CEST Watch Live: Twitch (https://www.twitch.tv/ESLCS)

Imperial Esports and M80 will meet on Saturday, September 14, in the Group C upper-bracket final of ESL Pro League Season 20. Both teams have exceeded expectations — especially the Brazilian lineup, who bested MOUZ in the upper-bracket semifinal.

Imperial’s strong showing on Wednesday explains the betting odds offered by the top Counter-Strike bookmakers, although it is not fair to overlook what M80 have produced so far. While they have had an easier path, Elias “s1n” Stein still bested Complexity and Fnatic, which is no small feat.

M80 have an impressive 8-2 record from their last 10 outings, yet just three of their five players hold a positive average rating in ESL Pro League Season 20. In contrast, all but Vinicius “VINI” Figueiredo on Imperial have gone at 1.06 or better over their last two series.

Jo?o “felps” Vasconcellos (1.29) and Lucas “decenty” Bacelar (1.37) have been the driving force behind Imperial’s Cinderella run. On the other hand, M80 have a better win rate on four of the seven maps: Anubis (100%), Ancient (78%), Vertigo (50%), and Inferno (75%).

At $1.66, Imperial Esports are given a 60.2% implied probability of beating M80, which makes sense considering their victory against MOUZ. However, the world’s No.5 team haven’t been in the best shape of late, so that result can be taken with a grain of salt.

While this is Imperial’s game to lose, M80 should not be underestimated. If they can play around their maps, the American-German lineup should be able to put up a decent fight.

Astralis’ struggles continued at ESL Pro League Season 20 as Complexity sent them to the Last Chance Stage in a scrappy series.

Both teams faced challenges, but Complexity’s individual prowess carried them over the line in overtime on Vertigo (19-17) and Inferno (16-14).

Complexity now faces Imperial Esports, while Astralis battles Rooster to stay alive in the Counter-Strike 2 tournament.

Despite rebuilding their roster after failing to qualify for the PGL Major Copenhagen, Astralis has seen their form decline since notable top-four finishes at IEM Chengdu and ESL Pro League Season 19.

Their recent loss to Fnatic in the EPL opener left them hoping for a rebound against a struggling Complexity.

However, Astralis fell short, with star AWPer Nicolai “device” Reedtz underperforming, leading to an apology on social media.

Poor offensive play and bizarre mid-round decisions added to their woes.

Complexity, though far from perfect, edged out Astralis thanks to standout performances from Jonathan “EliGE” Jablonowski and H?kon “hallzerk” Fj?rli.

While Complexity may not take much pride in barely defeating an out-of-form Astralis, their better gun round performance on Inferno and individual firepower got the job done.

MOUZ also saw disappointment in their ESL Pro League campaign, losing to Imperial in overtime on Dust2 (16-14) and Inferno (16-13).

Despite being ranked No. 1 earlier this year and having a strong season, MOUZ faltered, with players like Ludvig “Brollan” Brolin struggling significantly, posting just six kills on Inferno.

Imperial capitalised on MOUZs mistakes, with standout performances from Lucas “decenty” Bacelar and Jo?o “felps” Vasconcellos, advancing them to a seeding match.

M80 made headlines with a record-breaking 71-round match against fnatic on Anubis, the longest Counter-Strike 2 map on HLTV.

M80 won the epic battle in octuple overtime (37-34) before also taking Inferno in extra time (16-13).

Their victory secured a playoff spot and marked a breakthrough for North American CS, making them the first NA team outside Complexity and Liquid to reach Big Event playoffs since 2019.
